Medical staff and volunteers at a number of GAA clubs have been praised after a 'medical emergency' at a championship semi-final on Sunday afternoon. A member of the Dunloy club took ill during the Bathshack Antrim Senior Hurling Championship semi-final clash between Loughgiel and Dunloy.

The game was held at Cushendall GAA club and members of the Fire Service, Medical Centre and RNLI were also involved in the medical emergency response. Thankfully, the Dunloy club were able to give a positive update on the illness to well-known clubman Malachy McTaggart and say 'hopefully it won’t be too long until we see Malachy back at our games'.

A Dunloy statement on social media read: "Everyone at Dunloy GAC sends their best wishes to Malachy and a speedy recovery after today’s game. A special mention goes to the medical professionals from Dunloy, Loughgiel and Cushendall who came to his aid and gave the support to him and his family at a trying time.

"It’s times like this we are grateful for our medical staff & club volunteers at times like this. Cushendall's volunteers and club deserve massive credit for how they handled everything and looked after the family. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we see Malachy back at our games."
