Trai Hume wants more special moments as prepares for Germany clash
Sunderland defender Trai Hume netted his first goal for his country on Friday night to seal a vital win over Slovakia
Trai Hume says he would love to chip in with a few more goals after scoring in the crucial World Cup qualifying win over Slovakia on Friday night.
The Sunderland man coolly lobbed home the second goal in front of the Kop with nine minutes to go, his first for Northern Ireland.
Hume is hoping he can bag a few more for his country as they bid to kick on from this impressive result and performance.
"It was a great feeling, my first goal, hopefully I can chip in with some more," said Hume.
"I've went up to head the ball from the second phase from the corner and the keeper has come out and punched. He's not in his net so I've tried to guide it towards the net and thankfully it's gone in.
"Like I said, I'm just trying to guide it towards the net and hopefully it goes in. It was a great moment and I enjoyed it.
"I thought throughout the game we probably deserved the three points. I thought we were outstanding. They probably had one chance in the second half and we created multiple. We probably deserved the three points and that's the most important thing.
"We have to manage ourselves against certain teams, we know when we can press and when we have to sit in. We did both sides of the game today. Second half we didn't press as much as we did the first half.
"We were at home and we wanted to get after them and put them under pressure. We were able to do that, we got the first goal in the first half and the second goal at a good time."
Next up for Northern Ireland is a meeting with Germany in Belfast, with their task made that bit tougher as Conor Bradley is ruled out due to suspension after picking up a booking on Friday night.
Hume said the Liverpool man was "the best player on the pitch" against Slovakia and he says they have to deal with his absence against Julian Nagelsmann's side.
"I thought the whole team was outstanding but Conor Bradley was the best player on the pitch by a mile in my opinion," said Hume.
"Everyone was great but down that side him and Ethan were outstanding, linking up, creating chances and getting us up the pitch.
"It's not ideal to be without him. We spoke before the game that the boys who were on yellows to try and not get it but it's one of those things.
"You can't go into a game trying not to get booked. You've got to play to your strengths. He's full-throtle, he's 100% all the time. Obviously we're not happy but it's one of those things that happens.
"Obviously Conor is going to be a big miss but we're a big group, we're a strong team and we're all together, so it's something we have to deal with and we'll be ready."
