Saoirse Ronan sends fans wild with ‘psycho’ new role that ‘was worth the wait’

Saoirse Ronan takes on an unsettling role in her return to the small screen

Saoirse Ronan has taken on an unsettling new role, much to the delight of her fans.

The iconic rock band Talking Heads marked the 50th anniversary of their hit song Psycho Killer with a music video. Despite being one of the band's most renowned songs, it had never been given a music video - until now.

The new visuals were directed by Mike Mills and feature Irish actress Saoirse Ronan.

In the video, the Brooklyn star portrays an average employee enduring a monotonous and repetitive day on repeat, driving her to the brink of madness.

As Ronan carries out mundane tasks such as brushing her teeth and commuting to work, her behaviour in the montage gradually becomes more manic, beginning to mirror the lyrics of the song, reports the Irish Star.

Mills discussed the video concept with Vulture, stating, "The last thing you want to do is pin down or reduce what the song is about. The song is so much more than being psychotic or killing.

"At first, I was totally daunted. I was like, 'How the f*** do you make a video for Psycho Killer for my art heroes?' It's impossible. I can't think of that idea, it's too hard. Then, walking down my hallway, the idea came to me in a flash. Saoirse isn't at all a psycho killer or anything. It's the environment and that life and false normality."

Mills revealed how the 31-year-old from Dublin came to be involved with the music video, highlighting that Ronan, a die-hard Talking Heads fanatic, tied the knot to their track This Must Be The Place.

The renowned actress, who's been a presence in the film industry since her youth, exchanged vows with Scottish actor Jack Lowden last summer in a cosy ceremony.

The members of the band, who are now navigating their seventies, issued praise for the unexpected video, sharing, "This video makes the song better. We LOVE what this video is NOT – it's not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious."

The video has already amassed over a million views in just 24 hours, with Ronan's fans stating that the actress' new role was '"worth the wait."

The Oscar nominee has not graced the big screen since 2024, when she starred in Steve McQueen's moving drama, The Blitz.
