Ryanair, Jet2 and easyJet boarding pass rules as one makes major change
Each airline will have slightly different rules than another
The airport process can be the most stressful part of a holiday for many. It's crucial to have all your documents in order before you fly.
There may be times when you think you've got everything sorted, only to be tripped up by an unexpected airline rule.
Each airline has its own set of rules, which can differ slightly from one another. This makes it vital to keep up to date with the latest travel advice from each airline, especially the one you're flying with.
Boarding passes play a key role at airports as they provide access through security, enable you to board the plane, and act as evidence of your right to travel. They include flight details such as gate and seat numbers.
The pass also confirms your check-in status, which is essential if there are issues with your flight, like delays or cancellations. One airline is introducing significant changes to its boarding passes from mid November, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Ryanair has announced that it will transition to 100% digital boarding passes from Wednesday, November 12.
Here are the rules for boarding passes for some of the UK's leading airlines, including Ryanair and its upcoming changes:.
Ryanair
For flights departing before November 12 2025, you must complete check in online on the Ryanair website or in the Ryanair App no later than two hours before scheduled departure of each booked flight and either print a boarding pass on a single A4 page or download a digital boarding pass to your mobile phone via the Ryanair App.
Ryanair has announced that the date for a huge upcoming change to boarding passes has been moved. The airline confirmed on Wednesday, September 24, that it will move to 100% digital boarding passes from Wednesday, November 12 instead of Monday, November 3.
The European airline stated that the delay is to ensure a smooth transition for customers during the less busy travel period following the mid-term break. From November 12, passengers will no longer be able to download and print a physical paper boarding pass.
Currently, nearly 80% of Ryanair's passengers already utilise digital boarding passes. Ryanair's move to 100% digital boarding passes is intended to follow other key tickets industries like festivals, music, and sport events.
While most countries will accept digital boarding passes, airports in Morocco and Turkey (except Dalaman), and Tirana airport in Albania still don't accept mobile passes, according to Ryanair's website.
EasyJet
EasyJet has advised that passengers can check in between 30 days and two hours prior to their flight's departure, with the option to download or print boarding passes for all flights. Passengers may need your passport or identity card and the airline will ask you to confirm your contact details.
In case of a lost boarding pass, there's no need to panic as it can simply be reprinted. If opting for a printed version, it's important to ensure the entire boarding pass is clearly visible for staff members or scanning systems.
The majority of airports easyJet travels to accepts mobile boarding passes however, the airports listed below do not currently accept mobile boarding passes.
Guidance shared by EasyJet says: "If you're flying from an airport that doesn't currently accept mobile boarding passes, please check in online at www.easyJet.com and print out a paper boarding pass for your flight.
"Many of these airports require all passengers to complete a document check before going to security. If travelling from an affected airport, please make sure you, and anyone you're travelling with goes to our Bag Drop for a document check before going through security."
Jet2
Passengers can check in from 28 days before departure and directly download their boarding passes onto their device or print them off. The Jet2 app allows passengers to check in and download their boarding pass up to six hours before the scheduled departure time.
If you fail to meet this deadline, you'll need to check in at the desk, a service that Jet2 provides free of charge. It's worth noting that Jet2 also operates flights to destinations in Turkey and Morocco, where physical boarding passes are required.
TUI
On its website, the operator explains: "You'll need to print each boarding pass clearly on an individual piece of A4 paper. The barcode on the pass will need to be scanned at the airport, so the page mustn't have any rips or tears.
"Your boarding pass is an official security document, so you'll need to keep it safe until you reach your destination. Just so you know, we can't accept any unclear, faded or blurry boarding passes."
If you find yourself unable to print your boarding passes, you can collect them from the TUI bag drop desk when you arrive at the airport. You'll find your boarding passes at the bottom of the check-in confirmation email that TUI send you once you've checked in online from your smartphone.
If mobile boarding passes are available on your route, you'll receive these as well as a printable PDF. When you get to the airport, you can either show your mobile boarding passes, or a printout of the PDF. However, mobile boarding passes aren't available on all routes - if they're not available, you'll need to print the PDF.
