Police are currently at the scene of an armed robbery at a filling station in Co Tyrone.

It was reported at around 6.40am that a short time earlier a group of males, wearing boiler suits and masks, armed with suspected firearms threatened security staff who had been attending an ATM at the premises on the Caledon Road in the Aughnacloy area.

The group ordered staff into the ATM bunker then removed cash boxes from the security van and the ATM before making off from the scene in a dark coloured vehicle, with a significant sum of cash.

PSNI Chief Inspector Ryan McConville said: “Thankfully no members of staff were injured but have been left shocked by the incident.

“Our investigation is at an early stage and we are appealing for anyone with any information about this incident or who may be able to help with our investigation, is asked to call police in Dungannon on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 191 08/10/25, or submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has condemned the incident.

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said: “This was a disgraceful incident, and I want to strongly condemn it. My thoughts are with the workers caught up in it, who will no doubt be left frightened. Anyone with information should contact the police.”

Appeal for witnesses

Detectives investigating the armed robbery have appealed for witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage to get in touch.

Detective Inspector McCamley said: “All information relating to this armed robbery is needed. This would have been a shocking experience for the staff involved. This masked group had ordered staff into the ATM bunker then removed cash boxes from the security van and the cash machine.

“They then made off from the scene in the direction of Armagh in a dark-coloured Audi Q7 with a significant sum of cash. As part of our enquiries, we are liaising with An Garda Síochána. We are asking anyone with information or who may be able to help with our investigation to call us on 101 quoting 191 08/10/25.

“If you noticed any suspicious behaviour in and around this filling station in recent days or if you were travelling in the area at this time, we want to hear from you. Similarly if you have dash-cam footage covering this area or live in the general area and may have a doorbell camera, your information could be valuable to our investigation."

'A very worrying incident'

Police remain at the scene this Wednesday lunchtime after armed robbers made off with a “significant sum of cash” from a filling station in Co Tyrone.

Males wearing masks and carrying suspected firearms threatened security staff attending an ATM at the business in the Aughnacloy area early on Wednesday morning and stole cash boxes.

'Large sum of money taken'

It's understood that a large sum of money was taken from the vehicle delivering ATM cash at the filling station along the Monaghan/Tyrone border.

'An extremely frightening experience for staff'

Posting on social media, Fermanagh and South Tyrone DUP MLA, Deborah Erskine said: "This morning I have been liaising with police regarding a cash in transit, armed robbery at Aughnacloy Spar. Thankfully nobody was injured but this would have been an extremely frightening experience for staff.
"It is shocking that a local business has been targeted in this way. Businesses in our rural towns provide an essential service and for thieves to wreck and destroy this is deplorable.
"I know the local community of Aughnacloy will rally behind those affected by this terrible incident. I therefore urge anyone with any information to bring it forward to the PSNI."

'A brazen and deeply disturbing attack'

Ulster Unionist MLA Diana Armstrong described the incident as "a brazen and deeply disturbing attack".

Ms Armstrong said: “This was a brazen and deeply disturbing attack on those simply going about their daily job. It’s very shocking to hear of the use of firearms and threats to life in the quiet community of Aughnacloy.

“It is a relief to hear that no one was harmed or injured. I urge anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI immediately. My office is liaising with the PSNI team in South Tyrone.”

Incident is 'very concerning'

Posting on social media, Clogher Valley DUP Cllr Mark Robinson said: "Very concerning reports of an armed robbery of a cash van, in Aughnacloy early this morning.

"My immediate thoughts are with those caught up in the incident, I understand there has been no one hurt."

Staff 'uninjured but shocked'

Police say thankfully no members of staff were injured but they have been left shocked by the incident.
