Maxine Davis falsely claimed benefits worth over £29,000 for six years

A Newtownabbey woman has been fined £30,000 after being convicted of six years of benefit fraud.

Maxine Davis, 66, of Glebe Manor, was sentenced on Tuesday, September 2, at Laganside Crown Court after being convicted of six charges of falsely claiming Jobseekers Allowance from July 2017 to January 2023.

It came following a fraud investigation by the Department for Communities where Davis was found to have claimed over £29,000 that she was not entitled to.

She was fined £30,0000 as part of her sentence with the Department saying that this has been repaid in full.

A DfC spokesperson said: "Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department for Communities anonymously. Find out more at: https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/benefit-fraud."
