Nathan Carter on being a 'third wheel' with brother Jake and fiancée Karen Byrne

The musician brothers and Dancing With The Stars judge co-host a podcast together

Nathan Carter has opened up about being the "third wheel" when he spends time with his brother Jake and Jake's fiancée Karen Byrne.

The trio co-hosts their podcast together, The Carter Couch, and Nathan shared that he occasionally acts as referee for the couple.

Jake and Karen got engaged in March 2025, after the pair met in 2018 when they were partnered together on the hit RTE dancing show Dancing With the Stars.

When asked on Ireland AM if he is the third wheel, he said: "Sometimes, yeah. They have this love/hate relationship. And Jake gives out to Karen. Karen gives out to Jake, and I'm the referee in the middle!" he said, speaking with Elaine Crowley, Martin King and Eric Roberts.

"You're Switzerland" Elaine joked.

"We're just about to finish it up next week is the final episode of the podcast. It's not something that I was ever intending to get into."

"Jake mentioned it, they were going to do one, and he said would I get involved, and I said that I'll do a few episodes... I've been there two seasons," Nathan said.

"So it's been good fun, and it actually gives us a bit of time to bond together, because they live in Dublin, so I don't see them an awful lot."

However, he added that Jake being his new tour manager has meant that they get to spend more time with each other and that Jake is a good influence on the crew when it comes to healthy eating.

"He's really good at his job and I wouldn't have the best of diets, neither would most of the band, to be honest. So recently in Scotland he bought an air fryer.

So this is his morning routine now, he won't have bacon, it has to be turkey rashers and scrambled eggs.

So we're now on this health kick, which I could do with, to be honest with you. He's no Gordon Ramsey, but he's very good.

Family is very important to the Carters, with Nathan's nan joining them on tour for the past 16 years.

Nathan shared that after he left school, it was his nanny who convinced his parents to let him pursue music and perform gigs.

"Nan and my grandad celebrated the anniversary two days ago. They were 61 years married, which is incredible.. She's 86, I think, this year, and still acting like teenagers."

"She's not musical herself, she can't sing at all, but she was the one who kind of pushed me to the gigs and to have her on tour is amazing.

"She sells the merchandise and meets everyone as they walk in. She does the UK tours, and she'll come over for the big Irish gigs."
