Naked Gun trailer shows full look at Liam Neeson's comedy chops as Frank Drebin Jr

"Only one man has the particular set of skills - to lead Police Squad and save the world"

We are used to seeing him as an action hero with one of cinema's most iconic lines, but now Liam Neeson is ready to show off the classic local humour.

The first trailer has been released of The Naked Gun reboot starring the Ballymena actor alongside Pamela Anderson

The original 1988 Naked Gun film follows Detective Sergeant Frank Drebin with a lot of heart, despite being less-than-intelligent who was famously portrayed by Leslie Nielsen.

The franchise spanned a number of sequels with the last instalment, 'The Final Insult', released in 1994.

Now Neeson will step into the Frank Drebin shoes as he plays his son in the upcoming film, which is set to be released on August 1 2025.

In a nod to his famous Taken role, the IMDb description of the film reads: "Only one man has the particular set of skills - to lead Police Squad and save the world."

The Naked Gun is directed by Akiva Schaffer, who co-wrote the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand and also Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddy Yu, and Danny Huston.

It was produced by Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane who was initially interested in casting Liam Neeson as Frank Debrin Jr.

When news of the reboot began to surface in 2022, Neeson told People that stepping into Leslie Nielsen would either be a career-changing or career-ending moment.

He said: "I've been approached by Seth MacFarlane and Paramount Studios to maybe resurrect the Naked Gun films.

"It'll either finish my career or bring it in another direction. I honestly don't know."
