Michael O'Neill is doing the opposite of what the Republic of Ireland are says former Premier League star

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill has delivered 'a team to be proud of'

As Michael O'Neill prepares to lead Northern Ireland into their crucial World Cup qualifying double-header against Slovakia and Germany, one former Premier League star has praised the job he is doing.

Former Wolves striker Don Goodman, who now works as a pundit, says O'Neill is "delivering everything that the Republic of Ireland aren't".

Goodman believes the current Northern Ireland team is "one to be proud of" who "leave it all out there".

"Michael O'Neill is basically delivering everything that the Republic of Ireland aren't," Goodman told football betting site talkSPORT Bet.

"He's doing it, Michael O'Neill, with even less to choose from in terms of what level these players are playing at

"They have in that squad players from Mansfield, Blackpool, Stevenage, Wycombe and Bristol Rovers. Certainly, over the last couple of squads, they've had players from those clubs anyway and there was no disgrace when they lost 3-1 away in Germany.

"They've got two home games in this international break, Slovakia, who have already beaten Germany at home, so that isn't going to be easy and Germany again.

"So they're tough games, but what I would say is that he has given them a team to be proud of.
