The British & Irish Lions thrashed the AUNZ XV 48-0 in their best performance of the tour to date to leave Andy Farrell with a number of selection headaches ahead of the first Test against the Wallabies.

Farrell's side scored eight tries, which included a hat-trick from Duhan van der Merwe, while Ben White, Henry Pollock, Ronan Kelleher, Scott Cummings and Sione Tuipulotu also scored

The likes of scrum-half White, full-back Hugo Keenan and No 8 Ben Earl may well have forced their way into the Test XV next weekend, while Wales star Jac Morgan was as industrious as ever. Many have suggested the side that played the Brumbies on Wednesday was Farrell's first choice, but he may have to rethink a few selections now.

Morgan was excellent yet again, putting in another high quality performance and finishing the game as top tackler. There is huge competition in the backrow, so his presence in the first Test 23 is far from certain, but he couldn't have done anymore to convince Farrell.

The Lions led 17-0 at the interval with a couple of terrific team tries putting van der Merwe over while White scored a cracking individual score.

Farrell's side turned it up a notch after the break and AUNZ XV had no answer to their physicality and attacking intent.

Van der Merwe claimed his hat-trick while Owen Farrell impressed from the bench as the Lions fired a warning shot to Joe Schmidt's Wallabies just seven days out from the first Test.

A look at the opposition

There is some serious talent in this AUNZ XV.

Australia backrower Pete Samu is an outstanding player and played a pivotal role in Bordeaux's rise to European champions this season.

It is also a tasty midfield with former All Blacks star Ngani Laumape capable of being a handful while David Havili has been outstanding for the Crusaders in their Super Rugby Pacific winning campaign this season.

Wallabies star Marika Koroibete is a powerhouse wing and is a world class finisher.

All Blacks star Shannon Frizell is a world class blindside while No 8 Hoskins Sotutu is an x-factor player

AUNZ XV: Shaun Stevenson, AJ Lam, Ngani Laumape, David Havili, Marika Koroibete, Tane Edmed, Folau Fakatava, Aidan Ross, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Angus Blyth, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto (c), Shannon Frizell, Pete Samu, Hoskins Sotutu.

Replacements: Kurt Eklund, Joshua Fusitu'a, George Dyer, Matt Philip, Joe Brial, Kalani Thomas, Harry McLaughlin-Phillips, Jock Campbell.

Test places up for grabs

The reality is Andy Farrell will have the majority of his first Test team inked in but there are some places up for grabs.

One area is the backrow and an outstanding performance from Jac Morgan today could see the Wales star nail down a Test place.

There is so much depth in the backrow with the likes of Tom Curry, Josh van der Flier and Morgan fighting for a place.

It looks as if the Lions will go for a big athletic six with the lineout in mind with Ollie Chessum favourite to start.

But the Lions have had problems at the breakdown and Morgan has arguably been the form openside on tour.
