Katie Taylor becomes stepmother to five children after marrying real estate agent

Katie Taylor's husband, Sean McCavanagh, is the father to two sons and three daughters, who range in age from 11 to 23, after his wife Alicia passed away in October 2023

Boxing champion Katie Taylor has become stepmother to five youngsters following her wedding to a property agent. Taylor's spouse, Sean McCavanagh, 47, is dad to two lads and three lasses, aged between 11 and 23, according to the Sunday World.

Sean's previous wife, Alicia - mum to his five kids - died unexpectedly in October 2023. The Bray fighter went to the same church as Sean, Alicia and their youngsters, and went on holiday with the family to Boston four years back, where they watched a baseball match.

Sean and Alicia also went to Katie's bouts in 2017, alongside several relatives from both families. Alicia, whose family name was Velardo, was only 43 when she passed away.

The boxing icon relocated to Vernon, Connecticut in September 2016, a modest town roughly 150km from Boston. She probably first encountered estate agent Sean, Alicia and their brood through her Pentecostal Church locally.

The church's website states that it "began as a small Bible Study in Rockville, CT in 1985 after the Lord called Pastor Ramond 'Flick' Grezel and his wife Susan to ministry here.

"With much prayer and going door to door, the community quickly responded to Flick's teaching in God's word and many people were saved.

"Today the Church continues to focus on reaching people in the community who are outside the typical church circles."

Taylor was seen publicly with her husband for the first time as a married couple this month whilst Katie was visiting a rehabilitation facility in her native county of Wicklow, where she spent hours chatting with residents about her career highs and lows.

When quizzed about married life with Taylor, McCavanagh told the Sunday World: "It's the best ever, she's the best!"

And when asked how he enjoyed his few days in Ireland, he replied "How could you not?" he said. "I loved my time in Ireland, I'm home now."

Property broker Sean, whose relatives originate from Manchester in the US, facilitated Katie's acquisition of her €455,000 Connecticut residence back in December 2023.

It's understood that the pair tied the knot in Ireland earlier this year during an intimate ceremony with just close friends and family present.

Speculation about Taylor's marriage began circulating over the summer when she was photographed sporting a wedding band before her trilogy fight with Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden.

Following weeks of speculation, Katie's father, Pete - with whom she recently mended fences - went on a podcast and confirmed that the 'Bray Bomber' had indeed wed.

"I was reading somewhere that Katie Taylor never got married because of her father, he wouldn't let her. "Katie's married, you know, and I'm thinking, 'Where are you getting this s*** from?'," said Pete on the Anything goes podcast."

Throughout her career, Katie has remained tight-lipped about her personal life and seldom discusses her romantic relationships.

In her Netflix documentary that aired a few years ago, Katie opened up about her love life for one of the rare times:.

"Sometimes I think I'm a bit too single-minded where I only think about the next flight.

"I'm not too sure whether I want to get married, whether I want to have kids."

She added with a chuckle: "I don't think I'd be able for that. I can hardly look after myself.

"I've definitely had opportunities where I've been in relationships with guys and stuff, but it's never really worked out.

"They just weren't the right guy, I guess. And I always felt like life was a lot easier as a single person when I am training so much. And I'm very, very happy as a single person as well, but I don't regret any decisions I've made."
