Irishman goes viral after funny moment he interrupts live TV broadcast
A racegoer named Pat made a surprise appearance during a live TV broadcast, as he joined two presenters to chat about the day's racing action
A racegoer named Pat unexpectedly became the star of the show when he interrupted a live TV broadcast as two presenters were summarising the day's racing events.
Pat managed to position himself behind Fran Berry and Gary O'Brien while they were discussing the results at Thurles on Thursday afternoon.
He began waving at the Racing TV camera, catching the eye of retired jockey Berry, who has been working in media since an injury forced him to hang up his riding boots in 2019.
In a humorous twist, Pat, who mentioned he was enjoying a day out at the County Tipperary course with friends, failed to recognise the Group One-winning rider.
"Which one are you?" he asked, after revealing he had backed the final winner on the seven-race card, Grann's Boy (7-4f) in the www.thurlesraces.ie Handicap, reports the Irish Mirror.
O'Brien, who invited Pat to join their conversation, informed him that Berry had enjoyed some success earlier in the day and could offer him some tips for Dundalk on Friday.
"I'll give you a total run through the card," Berry offered, as the men discussed their origins.
Shortly afterwards, impromptu guest Pat, who confirmed he was having a fantastic day out, vanished from the screen, allowing the hosts to carry on.
The video has since gone viral on Racing TV's social media platforms, with the caption 'When you make a new friend @Franmberry @thurlesraces' on X. Berry and O'Brien have received high praise from many racing fans for including the punter in their review of the card, following races run on good to yielding ground.
"National hunt racing highlight of the year already thanks to two gentlemen not taking life too seriously. Fair play men," one person wrote.
Another social media user commented: "THAT IS GOLD! Well done lads and fair play for creating one of the all time racing interviews!".
A third remark read: "This is superb!".
