Hair hacks for stronger, longer and healthier hair according to TikTok

These simple techniques could come in very handy whilst the hairdressers are still shut

With hairdressers shut during lockdown we've been left to our own devices to look after our hair and keep it in good shape.

But if you're in desperate need of some hair TLC then it might be worth giving these a go.

Bathroom specialists, Drench, have taken to hair TikTok to source the best hair hacks of 2021.

1. Shampoo your hair upside down

This can prevent you from adding too much product which many make the mistake of doing. Lathering only the roots allows you to avoid the ends and increase circulation. There is evidence that a scalp massage can stimulate hair growth. The inversion method is an internet phenomenon that suggests this is the secret to long healthy hair.

2. Rice Water Rinse

Yeah, we have heard it all now, too. But honestly try it! Rice water can help improve your hairs elasticity and texture whilst also promoting hair growth. It is recommended to boil your rice and leave the water out for two days and then use this to rinse your hair.

So next time you need to rinse out your shampoo and conditioner use this. Whether it’s once a day or once a week, we recommend you add this to your hair routine.

3. Ditch the normal brush

Make sure that you are brushing your hair before you wash it and not after when it’s wet. If you do need to brush your hair when its wet then use a wet brush. The teeth on a wet brush are far more flexible preventing breakage. Although there is no damage-free way to brush wet hair so we recommended you just avoid. It will only cause split ends and broken strands.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar Spray

Got oily hair? Try spraying your hair with diluted apple cider vinegar a few minutes before your shower. Massage it in to balance the pH of your scalp and unclog any product build up in your hair follicles.

5. Rinse conditioner in cold water

Why? It locks in moisture creating a smooth and shinier look to your hair. It can also reduce frizz. Warm water is also proven to strip hair colour more!

6. Avoid Sulfate Shampoo

Shampoo and Conditioners with sulfates should be avoided if you have dry, frizzy and/or patchy hair. These can be harsh and dry your hair out by stripping the natural oils in your hair strands. Examples of this include sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate and magnesium lauryl sulfate. Next time you are at the shops check the back of the bottle for any of these ingredients.

7. Use a Scalp Massager

Using a scalp massager can stimulate the hair follicles so that your hair can grow faster. Massaging helps dilate the blood vessels beneath the skin and encourages hair growth. It prevents your scalp from getting clogged up with dead skin cells and product build-up. Both of these can result in the slowing down of natural hair growth.
