Danny Amos targets Stangmore Park first to help maintain Glentoran's impressive start

Irish Premiership leaders Glentoran take on Dungannon Swifts on Saturday afternoon

Danny Amos is targeting a first win at Stangmore Park to help Glentoran maintain their impressive start to the season.

The Glens lead the way at the top of the Irish Premiership and remain unbeaten with eight games played.

Amos knows it will be a tough test against a Dungannon Swifts side who have won their last three, but the fullback is determined to put the record straight after missing out on a victory there in his debut season.

"Stangmore Park was a difficult venue for us last season as we didn’t get a win there, so that’s something I’m determined to put right this weekend," said Amos.

"It’s a ground that’s tight, the crowd is close to the pitch and Dungannon always makes it difficult for you to play.

“They know how to play football and if you’re not switched on, they have the quality to hurt you. They’re Irish Cup champions for a reason and we know we’ll need to be at our best to get a result.

"If we’re even slightly off it, we’ll come away with nothing. That’s the reality of this league and that’s why our standards have to stay high every single game.

“We’ve made a strong start to the season, we’re unbeaten and sitting top of the table, but every player in this dressing room knows there’s still another level or two for us to reach.

"We’re winning games, picking up points and yet we all feel there’s more in the tank. That says a lot about the standards we’ve set and the hunger we have to keep improving.

“The message from the manager has been clear: never stand still, never be satisfied and always strive to get better. That mentality is showing in our performances, in the intensity of our training and in the togetherness within the squad.

“The focus now is on building momentum and continuing to go from strength to strength, not just over the next few weeks but across the whole season.

"We want to show that Glentoran are a team capable of sustaining success and delivering for our supporters every time we step onto the pitch.”
