Police are currently in attendance at the scene of a sudden death in Belfast.

In a brief statement issued on Thursday night, October 9, a PSNI spokesperson said officers were at the scene of a death in the Cliftonville Avenue area of North Belfast.

The statement was sent to media shortly after 8pm this evening. It continued: "An update will be issued in due course."

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 15:23 in relation to an incident in the Cliftonville Avenue area of Belfast. NIAS despatched a Rapid Response Paramedic and an Emergency Crew to the incident.

"Following initial assessment, no patients were taken from the scene."

Speaking to Belfast Live, Oldpark councillor Paul McCusker said he has spoken with police. He has been told that the Criminal Investigation Department are leading the investigation.

A PSNI spokesperson said:

Police remain at the scene of the sudden death of a man in the Cliftonville Avenue area of north Belfast this morning, Friday 10th October.

Enquiries are ongoing surrounding the circumstances of the death – and a post-mortem will be carried out in due course.
