Blue Lights actor Siân Brooke on filming in Belfast and 'Northern Ireland being the the star of the show'

“Actually being there, telling these stories, having people tell their stories to us, it's been phenomenal."

Blue Lights star Siân Brooke has said 'Northern Ireland is the star of the show' of the TV series and opened up on her time filming in Belfast.

Series three of the police drama began on our screens on Monday night, with all six episodes now available on BBC iPlayer.

The actor, who plays officer Grace Ellis in Blue Lights, opened up on her time working on series three in an interview on This Morning with presenters Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond.

Siân told: “I am privy to people's lives that, you know... I might not sort of come across in everyday life. For this time round, [Grace] goes back to that social working side of herself. Those two worlds collide very much so in this series.

“I went back and we had this incredible charity called MACS, who are based in Belfast, they're a homelessness charity, and they opened up their doors to us.

"And both the staff and the young people shared these stories that, you know... these sort of things might not happen to us in the whole of our lives, and these kids have had to deal with.

“And the series touches upon that.”

Siân added: “I think they've been really brave in telling these stories because they could have, you know, shied away from it, but I think if you took Belfast away from this police drama, it wouldn't be what it is.

“I've spoken about it in the past - Belfast, I feel is the star of the show. Northern Ireland is the star of the show.

“And actually being there, telling these stories, having people tell their stories to us, it's been phenomenal.

“And I think it's been a wonderful by-product of the show.”

A BBC statement describing the series says: "Two years into their jobs as response officers Grace, Annie and Tommy are accustomed to life under the blue lights.

"But their work will take them into a sinister world hidden behind the veneer of middle-class life, the world of the accountants and lawyers who facilitate organised crime.

"The old political and criminal order has gone and a new global gang rule Belfast, bringing danger closer to home for our officers than ever before."
