He was the best player on the pitch - Trai Hume hails Conor Bradley's performance against Slovakia

Conor Bradley leads by example as Trai Hume bags first international goal

Trai Hume heaped praise on Conor Bradley labelling the Liverpool man "the best player on the pitch" in the 2-0 win over Slovakia.

Bradley was handed the captain's armband after Hume had skippered the side in the first two qualifiers last month.

And the fullback led by example driving his side on to a vital win to blow Group A wide open.

"Bradley was the best player on the pitch without a doubt," said Hume after the game.

"First half he was outstanding and second half was outstanding and that's what you expect from someone like him."

It was a special night for Hume as he bagged his first goal for his country.

The former Linfield man kept his cool to lob the ball into an empty net with nine minutes to go to seal the win and the three points.

"I flicked the ball put, the keeper has come to clear it, and I just had to guide it towards the goal and thankfully I did," said Hume.

"It was a great night, good performance and the most important thing is the three points. I think we deserved it."

Ethan Galbraith was another standout performer on the night and he allayed any injury fears after he hobbled off with five minutes to go.

"I'm all good, I just cramped up," the Swansea City man explained. "I don't normally, but with the intensity we play at sometimes things like that happen but thankfully we were 2-0 up and saw the game out.

"It is brilliant but as the gaffer said it is only one game, it is a massive game again against Germany, so all focus is on the next game."

Galbraith has risen to the fore for his country in the last few international windows and he has formed a superb partnership with Bradley down the right-hand side with the pair combining for the first goal on 18 minutes as Patrik Hrosovsky put through his own net.

"I absolutely love playing with Conor," he said. "You can see the quality he has, he makes it easier for me linking up with him."

Galbraith was also delighted to see Hume pop up with his first international goal and he was impressed with the defender's finish

He said: "I saw it come down and I was like unbelievable, but he deserves that seeing how well he plays for club and country."
