Amazon knocks 70% off 'amazing' hair styler 'better than ghd' for 'glossy' locks
The retailer reduced the price of the popular hair straightener to £23 from £79.99
Amazon has slashed the price of an "amazing" hair straightener by 70%, with shoppers claiming it's "better than ghd." The Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straightener with Advanced Ceramic coating infused with Moroccan Argan Oil is now available for £23, down from its original price of £79.99.
It's one of several beauty deals currently available on Amazon, as the Prime Day sale kicks off today. The hair styler boasts ceramic plates infused with Moroccan Argan Oil with vitamin E, a temperature display with nine settings, an auto shut-off feature and a fast heat-up in 15 seconds.
Amazon's description states: "The Advanced Ceramic coated plates on these super smart straighteners are infused with Moroccan Argan Oil, a natural ingredient renowned for its shine enhancing properties, as well as Vitamin E, conditioners and moisturisers.
"When heated, these wonder Micro Conditioners evenly emit through the plates and on to your hair. Your tresses will be left looking intensely glossy and in 88 Percent better condition, softer and straighter."
Beauty lovers searching for alternatives might prefer the ghd Gold Styler hair straighteners from Selfridges for £189, the BaByliss 235 Hair Straightener - Denim Luxe on sale for £35 from £70 at LookFantastic, or the BaByliss 2540U Titanium Pearlescent Hair Straightener -Black on sale for £22 from £25 at Argos.
Nonetheless, reviewers praised Amazon's offering. Together, the Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straightener and the £29.99 wide hair version earned an average rating of 4.6 out of five.
Although some buyers suggested the stylers don't heat up and cool down quickly enough, lots of customers loved their results, reports the Mirror.
One happy shopper said: "Best straighteners ever!!! I got these yesterday, washed my hair last night and used these and I am so impressed!! I am usually a ghd/cloud9, and recently my cloud 9 gave up and I didn’t want to spend £160 on a new pair so thought I’d give these a go!
"My hair is really thick and nothing ever really straightens it, I usually have to get my hair blow dried by the hairdresser if I want to wear my hair down, but with these I am able to wear my hair down today!! They are just fab!!"
They continued: "Love them! Only down side is the button placement, I tend to press on the buttons when using them but I can live with that with these results!!"
A second reviewer wrote: "Best straighteners I have ever owned, much better than GHD. They glide effortlessly through the hair and only need to pass once to get shiny straight hair!
"They have a long chord with a swivel which helps with direction through the hair and they heat up fast with a beep to say they are ready. The LCD is clear and the control buttons are easy to reach. All in all they are excellent and for under £40 a real bargain compared to other stores. I would highly recommend them."
Unfortunately, not everyone was so impressed. A customer replied: "Good price but take a long time to heat up. Not as good as my last set (babyliss)." Someone else commented: "Did a really good job but the controls buttons are in a silly place right where you hold the tool! Spent most of the time turning it off up/down. Returned for refund."
Elsewhere, a shopper praised: "Wow these are amazing, the best I’ve ever used, they don’t pull or tug on the hair and they leave your hair so straight with a nice shine finish look to it, I’ve used different types that have cost me a fortune but these are by far the best."
It's worth noting, not everyone thought the straighteners were comparable to ghd straighteners. For instance, a shopper claimed: "I bought these straighteners after my decent ones broke. These are great value and quite quick to heat up. If you're looking for Cloud Nine or GHD quality you'll be disappointed. However, they are great as a back up or a pair to take away on holiday."
Offering a different perspective, someone else praised: "I was blown away the first time I used these, they perform like ghds. It's great that they have a lock setting, wider plates, a good variety of temperature settings to meet all different hair types and comes in a cute storage case for on the go or holidays. My hair now looks shiny and healthy but also kept straight for so much longer than my old pair of straightener. I wouldn't use any others now they're amazing!"
